Example: Everything is masked by default with no defined exceptions.
All text content and all form fields are masked. No PII is collected. This is the recommended masking approach.
Targeted unmasking exceptions can unmask whole pages or specific elements on pages:
Example: Everything is masked by default with targeted exceptions for the payment method and error messages.
It is also possible to unmask whole pages in this mode and to still mask specific elements on these pages at the same time:
Example: The whole page is excluded from masking with targeted exceptions only for the relevant PII (payment information).
Example: Nothing is masked, PII (payment information) is recorded.
All text content and all form fields are not masked. If not masked by targeted rules, PII would be collected using this mode.
As such it is always necessary to thoroughly audit the website and check whether any PII is collected after masking rules are set up.
